Readiness Exercises
An exercise is the simulation of a situation in which the participants (Players), based on the scenario, are asked to respond as if it were a real event.
Exercises are the only way to highlight the weaknesses and the readiness degree, thus preventing the appearance of these weaknesses during the management of real incidents highlighting them earlier so that the necessary improvements can be made.
They function in a dual capacity.
• As a practical education form
• As an operational tool to test Planning and readiness degree.
The Exercises are mainly divided into two types:
- Table Top Exercises
- Real or otherwise Field Exercises
What can be achieved through the Exercises:
• The transformation of theory into practice.
• The acquisition of knowledge, experience and skills in solving complex, unpredictable and unique problems.
• The test of the staff readiness, their educational adequacy and the need for further specialized training.
• The familiarization of the staff in the use of the equipment and means.
• The coordination of those involved and the clarification of roles and responsibilities.
• The testing and checking of Plans’ completeness and adequacy.
• The test of the required cooperation between all involved (including the Authorities)
• Identifying gaps or overlaps in roles and responsibilities of those involved and highlighting the role of experts.
• Improving coordination, communications and information management between stakeholders.
• Highlighting the picture of the requirements, determining and estimating the necessary resources (human and material)
